Welsh Government – Easy Read Patients with learning disabilities in hospitals
September 2026 | Information about Welsh patients staying in hospital.
We worked with the Welsh Government to create an Easy Read version of their report about people from Wales with a learning disability receiving specialist hospital care.
The report presents information from the Quarterly Learning Disability Specialist Inpatient Census. It shows how many Welsh residents with a learning disability were staying in specialist learning disability or mental health hospitals in Wales and England in April 2026.
It includes information about the different types of hospital settings people were staying in, including assessment and treatment units, continuing care hospitals, locked rehabilitation hospitals and secure hospitals.
The report also looks at how long people were staying in hospital. It shows that some people had been in hospital for several years, while others were ready to leave but had to wait. Some people had been waiting for more than a year to leave hospital.
By making the report Easy Read, we helped the Welsh Government share important information about people with a learning disability in hospitals in a way that’s more accessible and useful.
We also made a Welsh Easy Read version of the report. Both versions are digitally accessible and designed to work with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
