Cardiff Council – Easy Read A guide to your poll card

We worked with Cardiff Council to create an Easy Read version of their guide to poll cards, helping people with a learning disability understand important information about voting.

The guide explains what a poll card is and what the different sections mean. It uses an example of a blank poll card to show where to find information about the election, voting area, election day, polling hours, and polling station.

It also explains what happens when you go to vote at a polling station. This includes how to ask for help, what happens when you arrive, how to mark your ballot paper, and what to do if you make a mistake.

The guide covers other ways to vote, including voting by post and by proxy. It also includes information about the support available at polling stations and how to contact the council if someone needs help.

Alongside this, we made a similar Easy Read booklet about the postal poll card. This explains what a postal poll card is and what people need to do if they are voting by post.

By making this information easier to understand, we helped Cardiff Council make important voting information more accessible. The guides can help people with a learning disability feel more informed and confident about taking part in future elections.

We also created a Welsh Easy Read version of the booklet. Both versions are digitally accessible and designed to work with screen readers and other assistive technology.
